The Mormon Media Network (MMN) has been created as a place where people of all faiths, beliefs and convictions can meet and reason together in a spirit of cooperation, love and understanding. As you click your way around this site, you will see that it is not a network of Mormon media, but rather a network of media from a variety of sources with an emphasis on Mormon media.
When you browse the Internet looking for information about religions you’ll find a great deal of bitterness, hatred and misinformation. It’s our hope that the Mormon Media Network can be an oasis in that sea of anger. We hope to be a place where members of all faiths can feel comfortable, a place where guests can find information on a wide range of faiths, topics, and interests. We welcome input and participation. However, in the spirit of cooperation and understanding, we will not accept comments that are crude, derogatory or blasphemous. Although disagreements are a healthy part of the education process, we will not accept comments that are insulting of any religion. It’s our hope that we can all live by the motto: If it’s sacred to you, it’s sacred to me.
WHO’S BEHIND THE MORMON MEDIA NETWORK?
Although the Mormon Media Network is not an official media outlet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, those behind it are devout members of the church. Combined, the MMN staff has over 120 years of experience in entertainment, film and television production, and broadcasting. Many of those 120 years were spent working directly on media produced by the church.
WHAT WILL I FIND HERE?
In the book of Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord commands us to, “…teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.”(Doctrine and Covenants, section 88 verse 118) Clearly, the Lord was not commanding us to seek wisdom from only “Mormon” books. When that commandment was received, the only “Mormon” book available was The Book of Mormon. The Lord wants each of us to be well read, well rounded and well informed and the World Wide Web is the perfect tool for that. The best “books” are out there and available to us. The Mormon Media Network is searching through the best “books” and bringing information together in one place.
As you click your way around the site, you will find helpful and informative media from a wide variety of places. You might find a discussion from Vatican Radio next to a lecture on the history of Islam. Or you’ll find a video produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints linked to a lecture on TED Talks. Each of these things is simply a chapter in “the best books”.
You will find “Ideas” sections throughout the topic pages. These will be creative and helpful ideas shared by people from around the world. If Hilda in Salzburg has figured out a way to get her congregation to sing with conviction, she can share that information and maybe, just maybe Brent in Barstow can get his congregation singing. Did you figure out how to easily make butter on your youth trek? Tell us! “Ideas” will cover an endless range of ideas from the best minds in the world, YOURS!
The “Connect” section of the website is to help people network with other individuals who can help them accomplish tasks and share knowledge. Need to find someone savvy in videography to help you with your family history interview? Find them here. We also provide directories and information for great fireside presenters, photographers, musicians, and more.
We sincerely hope that you will come to see the Mormon Media Network as YOUR network, a place where your opinions and ideas matter.
